Top Picks
The number of listings in this week’s TBR list dropped slightly, and there has been a similar decline in both the quantity and quality of word domains. Two weeks ago there was a virtual explosion of single-word domains, and the last two weeks have brought us back to the norm with a very limited number of premium domains.
The total .CA TBR listings for January 23 check in at 8,281, which represents a drop of 206 domains compared to the 8,487 we had last week. When combined with the 8,436 and 7,816 entries from the two weeks prior to that, this gives us a new and higher (by 186) weekly average of 8,255 TBR listings through the prior month.
The slightly lower TBR .CA numbers translated into similar drop in overall TBR list quality, with fewer quality single-words and a big decrease in the number of available LLLs, very few of which qualified as premium. And just like last week, several NNN domains hit the TBR, but again, these all begin with a zero – clearly someone is dumping their low-end numerics.
It took a lot of searching, but we did find a few premium .CA names, but there was still not that “killer domain” we sometimes get, which can quickly turn a mediocre list into a good one. Our Top Picks this week include PTD.CA, MORTGAGING.CA, PARAMOUR.CA,and STROLL.CA.
PTD.ca – A very nice letter combination, with no low-end characters and the ending “D” can stand for Development, Department, Design, etc.
Mortgaging.ca – Not the perfect form of the word, but still a very powerful domain for banking and finance – and does anyone really think MORTGAGE.CA will ever hit the TBR?
Paramour.ca – Maybe a bit upscale for some, but this is a perfect term for a dating, relationship or hookup site and it’s surprising the .COM is not developed.
Stroll.ca – A short, recognizable word evoking a calm and enjoyable activity that could also be used as a brandable.

Both the quality and quantity of single-words have dropped slightly from last week and it is a considerable decrease compared to the word explosion of 2 weeks ago. Even so, there are still a few word domains with promise including Doodler.ca, Writings.ca, Conductive.ca, Fluide.ca, Peas.ca, and the last-name Baylor.ca.

Unfortunately, the available LLL leftover domains also dropped to only 8 this week (a big dip compared to the 18 domains of last week but still better than the 4 from the week before that) and there are a few second-tier options, including CZU.ca, LHQ.ca, NUX.ca, SZP.ca, and XGI.ca, but none of these is especially attractive either.
These LLLs all have some issues, such as containing at least one undesirable character (J, Q, X, Y, Z), and/or the letter combination is too low-end to hit our Top Picks. Unfortunately, the remaining lowest-tier LLLs will likely have very limited uses in the small Canadian business market.
