Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for March

Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for March 2019. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can help give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.

In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog was controlled by the latest gaming craze, Apex Legends, and featured top-ranking keywords like APEX, LEGENDS, KEEPER, EPIC, and PHOENIX, all of which have some connection to the game. There were also more traditional keywords present on the list, such as DENTISTRY, FRIENDS, STUDIOS, WINNING, and ATTORNEY. Naturally, the cross-pollination between the two lists mirrored the overall trends, with the keyword APEX hitting both the .COM and .NET sections, finishing first on .NET and second on .COM.

In March, the .COM keyword list starts off with the word CHAIN, which could be Crypto-related, and is followed by STADIA, a highly-expected term given the insane hype that Google bestowed on it new cloud gaming system. Next up we have the generic ASSISTANCE, then the Crypto BLOCKCHAIN, which gives some assurance for rationale behind the above-mentioned keyword CHAIN. We follow this with a few seriously-generic terms including CORK, FILL, SPRAY, and INTEGRATED, before getting into more specific keywords like YANG (presidential candidate Andrew Yang?) and MOTOX (or Moto X for the phone). It’s a nice mix of keywords this month, with several clear and very different trends being in evidence.

The .NET section of the keyword list starts off with a series of generic keywords, such as ONLY, OVER, STORY, and EDGE, all of which have high flexibility and are tough to pin to any one trend. Next up is APPLE, and this is obviously in relation to the tech giant and its product launch event in March, after which we have another series of extremely generic terms including WIN, JOURNAL, GOLDEN, BUILD, and PUBLIC. The .NET side of things seems to be far more tuned towards combining generic keywords into a domain name, as opposed to the more trendy and topical .COM keyword list.

After three months of shared terms between the .COM and .NET lists, unfortunately there is no cross-pollination between the two in March and the streak has officially ended. These three chart-spanning, uber-keywords included HEMP in December, KETO in January, and APEX in February, but not even STADIA or APPLE could do the trick in March.
