Top Picks
As you may or may not know, last week the CIRA strangely decided to update their system a day before the TBR run, which obviously didn’t go off as intended (BOOM!), so we’re looking at a combined 2 weeks of .CA data in this recap. The sheer numbers are staggering and total almost 20K for the week, easily the most domains the list has ever been stuffed with.
The total .CA TBR listings for February 6-13 check in at 19,983, or 11,027 new domains hitting this week, which represents a jump of 2,071 domains compared to the 8,956 we had last week. When combined with the 8,067 and 8,281 entries from the two weeks prior to that, this gives us a new and higher (by 635) weekly average of 9,083 TBR listings through the prior month (and 6 weeks straight of 8,000+ entries), which is the highest average in recent memory.
Due to the unprecedented influx of .CA domains, we have more than enough quantity to assemble a Top Picks list, this time led by KV.CA, 441.CA, TCP.CA, CENTAUR.CA, and PEAR.CA.
KV.ca – A 2-letter .CA, ’nuff said.
441.ca – 3-number .CA domains (that don’t start with zero) are always popular.
TCP.ca – By far the top LLL on the list, with the ending “P” standing for Partners, Products, Properties, Production(s), Prestige, etc.
Centaur.ca – Due to their resonance and name recognition, Mythical creature domains are extremely popular.
Pear.ca – A nice short and highly recognizable domain, with the added bonus of it being a fruit.
Shane.ca – First name domains are also a big draw, as not only is every Shane is Canada a potential customer, but businesses as well.

While the quality of single-words has dropped over the last few weeks, at least this time we have a nice selection of “good but no great” domains. The available LLL leftover domains total 21 this time, but actually amounted to 15 for the week of February 13 (a nice jump compared to the 6 from last week, and the 0 and 8 LLLs of the 2 weeks before that) and there are also several aged and hot second-tier options in CYS.ca, JPK.ca, KVC.ca, SJI.ca, YWI.ca, and WFM.ca – many of these have been off the market since 2000 (or earlier as CIRA only goes back to 2000) and are definitely viable investor picks.
The remaining LLLs all have some issues, such as containing at least one undesirable character (J, Q, X, Y, Z), and/or the letter combination is too low-end to hit our Top Picks. Unfortunately, the remaining lowest-tier LLLs will likely have very limited uses in the small Canadian business market.
