Sedo Weekly Domain Sales Report

Each week, the online domain marketplace Sedo.com releases a list of their top public domain sales of $2,000 USD or higher (private sales are not reported). This chart is separated into three sections, the .COM domains, the ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domains) and lastly, the Other domains, which represents the .ORG, .NET and other gTLDs.

The Sedo Weekly Public Domain Sales Recap covers from May 8 to May 14 and starts with ixa.com selling for 25,000 EUR, viagio.com hitting $19,888 USD, blockchainwallet.com going for $15,750 USD, while both nqi.com and dynamind.com reached $15,000 USD each. Overall, there were eight sales that hit 5-figures, including two very strange ones – apparently ti-media.com sold for $10,000 USD on May 7, and then the much-preferable timedia.com sold for $10,000 USD on May 8. Hopefully it’s just the same company correcting a mistake the first time. In all, there were 35 .COM sales of $2,000 or higher, which is equivalent to the 36 sales of last week, but is certainly down compared to the 63 listings from two weeks ago.

The ccTLD section of the Sedo chart starts off with a real bang, as the LL domain nx.de rocked the chart with a massive 33,320 EUR purchase price. This was the only domain sale to hit 5-figures, but omio.fr and sciencedaily.de came close at $9,000 USD and $8,999 USD, respectively. Some of the interesting name domains on the list include paperclip.ca at $4,000 USD, professional.co right behind it at 3,300 EUR, beginner.io learning the ropes with a $2,950 USD sale, and the dreaded chargeback.co squeaking in at $2,300 USD. Overall, the chart contained 17 ccTLD domain sales that reached a price of at least $2K (up from 12 last week, but down compared to 22 the week before that), and the overall auction leaders came out in this order: .DE (7 listings), .CO (3), and single entries for .CA, .CH, .CN, .CO.UK, .FR .IO, and .NL.

The Other domain section represents a renaissance of sorts for the beleaguered  .NET gTLD, as 7 out of the 9 listings were from this extension. Still, the top sale went to a new gTLD, as broadwaytickets.nyc checked in at $25,000 USD, but .NET held it own with a pair of 5-figures sales, as ondemand.net hit 12,600 EUR and architects.net drew in $10,000 USD. The other surprise is the lack of even a single .ORG on this list, as this gTLD has been extremely popular on our Sedo recaps, eclipsing .NET as the next-best Other to .COM. Is this a trend or just a one week blip on the radar?
