Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for February
Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for February 2019. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can help give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.
In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog featured a mix of very different keywords, from business to legal to generic, including TRIAL, CUSTODY, PROPERTY , LITIGATION, CREW, and DESIGNS . There were also several other keywords on the .COM and .NET lists, like the first-name SARAH, as well as PLUMBING, WIFI, CHEAP, LENS, and TRUCK, and the only cross-pollination between the two keyword sets was the high-fat/low carb food diet KETO (Ketogenic), which appeared in both the .COM and .NET sections.
In February, the .COM keyword list starts off with the plural WORLDS, a somewhat unusual term to be sitting at the top of the chart. This was followed by APEX, DENTISTRY, WINNING, and LEGENDS, which fit no overall pattern (other than the Apex + Legends game) but are still powerful and resonant domain keywords. These keywords were followed up by THEY, KEEPER, and PINPOINT before we finish off the .COMs off with FOLD and the first-name AMELIA. It’s tough to find any style or influence that permeates the overall list and most of the keywords are random in nature.
The .NET section of the keyword list starts off with a surprise as APEX repeats right off the bat, followed by STUDIOS, FRIENDS, CURRENT, and EPIC. The .NET keyword list also includes ANTI, ATTORNEY, and PHOENIX, before finishing up with STEM and CORPORATE. Other than APEX, there are a few similarities, as LEGENDS is part of the game name while EPIC are very close, and PHOENIX is not only a GEO keyword, but is also a mythological/legendary creature and an item in Apex Legends.
For the third month in a row we have a keyword that has cross-pollinated between the .COM and .NET keyword lists, and much like HEMP in December and KETO in January, APEX (as well as LEGENDS) is another hot-topic keyword derived from the new game APEX LEGENDS. Let’s see which keyword dominates in March and if the streak can continue.
