Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for August

Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for August 2018. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can help give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.

In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog was a virtual goldmine of generic terms like VEIN, GLOBE, YEARS, TON, FASHION, FILM, and COMPANY. There was no cross-pollination between the two word lists last month, which is not surprising by itself, but it came after a trending keyword chart that did have some shared duplicates.

In August, the .COM registrations continue along the same lines, with generic keywords dominating the top of the list. At order of popularity we have FAN, GRID, GRAD, and EMAIL, but looking a bit further down we also see a few business-oriented terms like SHORTING, BETS, ORTHODONTISTS, and CRYPTOCURRENCY. This is a nice mix of generic and industry-specific keywords, but as always a black sheep usually sneaks in, which in this case is definitely the keyword GOOSE.

The .NET section of the keyword chart is very similar, featuring a mix of generic and business-specific terms, but in this case they are interspersed throughout the list. At the top, we have HOTELS, HARD, APPS, and CANNA (as in Cannabis), and lower down on the list, BULL, PINK, GUY, POCKET, and GIFTS. Once again, this is no cross-pollination between the .COM and .NET keyword lists, and if we had to choose a theme for each, then the .COM looks more money-oriented with SHORTING, BETS, and CRYPTOCURRENCY, while .NET is almost entirely made up of short keywords like HARD, APPS, PINK, and GUY.
