Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for August
Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for August 2019. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can help give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.
In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog had the .COM side of things being decidedly generic in tone, starting off with keywords like TEXT, GLASSES, REMOTE, and INDEX, before moving on to more school-oriented terms like YEAR, TERM, FEE, and PAPERS, while also covering off the obligatory BRACES. On the .NET end of the equation, it was a quite different and the leading keywords included INSURANCE, WEDDING, CANNA, and VIRTUAL, along with some old standbys like GURU and LAWYER.
In August, the .COM keyword list begins with JUMBO, which was also present on last month’s chart, albeit a bit lower. Right after that we have DIABETES, DORIAN (and HURRICANE a bit later), CLAIMS, and AIRBNB. There is a bit of seasonal flair in the .COM list as HALLOWEEN makes an appearance, and we close it off with VOLUME, BULLET, and TAHOE, the last of which we don’t know exactly whether it’s in reference to Lake Tahoe and its climate change weather patterns. Overall, this keyword list doesn’t fit any standard pattern, but if you make some rudimentary connections, then it takes on a decidedly negative tone.
The September .NET section is mostly different from the .COM terms, and it starts off with REPAIR before moving to the popular singer TAYLORSWIFT, and continuing on with LOAN and PIEDMONT (Italy or SC?). Right after that we finally make a match with the powerful hurricane DORIAN appearing in both areas, and the .NET portion concludes with EMPOWER, SMALL, OUTLET, FINDER, and HILLS, making it very difficult to make a direct link between these keywords. But at least we had some cross-pollination between the .COM and .NET keywords, even though it unfortunately took a disaster like a hurricane to do it.
