TOUHOU.COM Sells for $75K and OGE.NET Hits $62K to Lead Sedo’s 3-Week Domain Sales Recap

Sedo Weekly Domain Sales Recap

Each week, the online domain marketplace Sedo.com releases a list of their top public domain sales of $2,000 USD or higher (private sales are not reported). This chart is separated into three sections, the .COM domains, the ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domains) and lastly, the Other domains, which represents the .ORG, .NET and other gTLDs.

This Sedo Weekly Public Domain Sales Recap covers public domain transactions over the holiday period from December 16, 2019 to January 5, 2020. We start off the .COM section of this recap with the top sale on the entire chart, as touhou.com checked in with a healthy price tag of $75,000 USD. This was followed by a long series of 5-figures transactions headed by pareto.com ($39,000 USD), jurnal.com ($15,000 USD), invierto.com (15,000 EUR), actio.com (14,500 EUR), geero.com (14,000 EUR), and osum.com (12,500 EUR). In all, we counted a total of 96 .COM transactions of $2,000 or higher over the 3-week period, or exactly 32 per week, which is just short of the 35, 35, and 38 qualifier range from our prior three Sedo recaps.

The ccTLD section has a wide selection of domain sales, but surprisingly there is not a single one to hit, or even approach, a 5-figure price tag. The largest is cryptopay.de at only 6,500 EUR, and others than reached $5,000 USD or more include minipu.de ($6,000 EUR), farmy.nl ($6,000 EUR), kuepper.de (5,950 EUR), sportsexpert.ca ($5,850 USD),  link.us ($5,009 USD), lo.fi (5,000 EUR), haarigeseite.de (5,000 EUR), stockx.tw ($5,000 USD), and stockx.com.tw ($5,000 USD). Other notable sales featured a second rare 2-letter in le.fr (3,450 EUR), the 3-letter sdl.ai ($5,000 USD), and short words like simon.nl (2,000 EUR), legit.io ($5,000 USD), sound.id ($3,000 USD), mansion.co ($4,895 USD), and only.mx (3,999 EUR). Overall, the 3-week total featured 52 ccTLD domain sales, or approximately 17 per week, that reached a price of at least $2K (which is within the range of 16, 20, and 22 similar transactions from the prior 3 recaps), with the country extension leaders sorting out in this order: .DE (20 listings), .CO (3), .FR (3), .MX (3), .NL (3), .CH (2), .CO.UK (2), .FI (2), and then single entries for .AI, .CA, .CO.ZA, .COM.PE, .COM.TW, .ES, .EU, .ID, .IN, .IO, .ME, .PE, .TW, and .US.

The Other section of the Sedo chart gets off to a big start with the 3-letter oge.net hitting a significant sales target at $62,000 USD, but with bitcoin.africa checking in at second place with a price tag of only $6,000 USD, there was certainly a big drop off afterwards. We do have a nice mix of the old and new gTLDs on the chart this time, with the remainder of the section displaying another three .ORGs competing with a pair of new GTLDs. Obviously the old guard was the clear leader again this week, and easily won both the total domain number and the total dollar value challenges. We tallied only 7 domain sales over the past 3 weeks in the Other section, or just over 2 domain sales per week, which was well below the 7, 5, and 7 transaction range from our last 3 weekly updates.
