Sedo Weekly Domain Sales Recap

Each week, the online domain marketplace Sedo.com releases a list of their top public domain sales of $2,000 USD or higher (private sales are not reported). This chart is separated into three sections, the .COM domains, the ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domains) and lastly, the Other domains, which represents the .ORG, .NET and other gTLDs.

This Sedo Weekly Public Domain Sales Recap covers public domain transactions from April 29 to May 5, 2019. We start off the .COM section of this recap with the top domain sale of the week, as centric.com changed hands for a very nice $46,000 USD. This was followed by palacio.com (12,500 EUR) and choosepower.com ($10,000 USD) as the only other 5-figure transactions, although coinxchange.com ($9,900 USD) and cloudavg.com ($9,715 USD) came very close to hitting the mark. In all, we counted a total of 35 Sedo .COM transactions of $2,000 or higher this week, which is down a bit from the 50, 42, and 54 similar sales from the previous 3 Sedo domain recaps.

The ccTLD section begins with our second-largest domain transaction of the week, as itjobs.kr went for a cool $37,500 USD and stühle.de was the only other 5-figure sale (in relative USD) at 9,999 EUR. The 3-letter entries included gla.de (6,800 EUR), mel.ee (5,000 EUR), and pmh.be (3,040 EUR), while strip.de (5,950 EUR), headphones.ca ($5,300 USD), crystals.eu (4,800 EUR), and amber.es (2,300 EUR) are some of the more notable single words on the chart. Overall, this week’s chart featured 17 ccTLD domain sales that reached a price of at least $2K (which compares favorably to the 25, 18, and 22 sales from the last 3 weeks), with the overall country leaders sorting out in this order: .DE (7 listings), .CH (2), .EU (2), and then single entries for .BE, .CA, .CO.UK, .EE, .ES, and .KR.

The Other section of our recap is quickly turning into a weekly battleground for the old and new gTLD guard. Historically, the .ORG and .NET domains would rule this particular roost, but of late, the new gTLDs have been mounting a challenge to the status quo, and have even come out on top a few times – including last week. This time out the Other list is topped by ilaw.org (5,000 GBP) and transformers.org ($3,500 USD), while the only new gTLD entries were ada.shop and cash.guru, which sold for $2,800 and $2,050 USD, respectively. Obviously the old guard wins in both the number of sales and the total dollar amount categories, while in terms of overall numbers, the 6 total Other domain sales of $2K or greater are in range of the 8, 5, and 8 transactions from the last 3 weekly updates.
