Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for January
Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for January 2019. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can help give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.
In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog featured a mix of very different keywords, from business to GEO to generic, including HEMP, DIVORCE, STRONG, DENTISTS, EUROPE, and CALIFORNIA. There were also several other keywords on the .COM and .NET lists, such as SMILES, SECURITIES , CAVIAR, FRIENDS, and SEND, and the only cross-pollination between the two keyword sets was the pot-powered HEMP, which appeared in both the .COM and .NET sections.
In January, we start off with KETO, which has to stand for the Keto (or Ketogenic) diet of high-fat/low carb foods designed to burn fat and alleviate some conditions like epilepsy. This is followed by CREW, and then a series of always-popular legal terms like TRIAL, CUSTODY, and LITIGATION, before finishing off with some generic terms including SETS, WIFI, and LENS. Other prominent keywords are the first-name SARAH and the business-oriented PLUMBING.
The .NET section of the keyword chart begins quite differently with PROPERTY and DESIGNS sitting in the top two spots, but right below these two is a very familiar face in KETO. After that it’s a wide range of different keywords like LEGAL, FILM, GARAGE, and LONG before closing off with CHEAP, LIKE, and TRUCK. Overall, the .NET list has a very different look and feel from the .COM area, and KETO is more of a shared anomaly than anything else.
For the second month in a row we have a keyword that has cross-pollinated between the .COM and .NET keyword lists, and much like HEMP in December, January’s KETO is another hot-button topic du jour that has been widely covered in media circles. Can’t wait to see which keyword dominates in February.
