Top 10 Trending Keywords in .COM and .NET Registrations for May
Verisign has released their Top 10 Trending .COM and .NET English Keywords for May 2018. These are the most popular domain registration keywords used during the month, and can give us an inside view of the hottest trends, news, styles, events, and even people, as it applies to registered .COM and .NET domain names.
In last month’s keyword list, the Versign blog highlighted standard words such as FUNERAL, LAZY, REALTOR, and HOLO on the .COM side, as well as PEN, BASE, ATTORNEY, and MARIJUANA with .NET domains. These keywords have changed considerably this month and there are several areas where the trends are heating up, especially as it relates to the recent court decision on state-sanctioned sports gambling.
The .COM registrations highlight this right off the bat, and Verisign’s most popular keywords in May include SPORTS, BET, BETS, GAMBLING, BETTING, and BOOKIE, so there is hardly a question of where this is heading. There were a few other words interspersed within the gambling keyword mania, like APPLE, ESCORT, ADVERTS, and OPPORTUNITY, but these were the exception to the rule.
It’s much the same story on the .NET side of things, with keywords like SPORTS and BET ranking high, but the top ranked words featured Crypto terms like CHAIN, BLOCK and BLOCKCHAIN making a comeback, and lower down, more generic ones such as HEMP, ACCOUNT, NATIONAL, and SITES. This cross-pollination of domain registration keywords confirms when a trend is really taking over the domain market so with SPORTS and BET scoring high on both the .COM and .NET lists, I’ll wager it’s for real.
